Fabrice Florin

I first joined Wikipedia in 2006 -- and now work as product manager for the Wikimedia Foundation, where I create new tools to help readers and editors contribute more effectively on Wikipedia. See my Wikimedia staff profile for more info on my work for the foundation.

I am the founder of NewsTrust.net, a nonprofit social news network promoting quality journalism, which was recently acquired by the Poynter Institute. I was elected an Ashoka Fellow for that work as social entrepreneur. My previous ventures include: Handtap, a wireless content service for mobile phones; shockwave.com, a web entertainment site at Macromedia; Apple Computer's Multimedia Lab, a new media R&D group; and Videowest, a producer of rock journalism for ABC, MTV and public TV. I also produced "Hackers", a documentary about the heroes of the computer revolution -- and earned four patents for my interactive TV work at Apple.

Videos

How can we make Wikipedia better?

At Wikimania 2012 in Washington DC, I asked some of the participants for ideas on how to make Wikipedia better.

Here are their suggestions, which can be viewed either as a short video slide-show (see thumbnail to the right) -- or in the photo gallery below.

To watch this quick video slide show, click the blue 'Play' button -- or view the full screen version.

You can also view in different file formats on YouTube and on Vimeo.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Page Curation Tour

Welcome to Page Curation, a new suite of tools to for reviewing new pages on Wikipedia.

This editor engagement tool helps offers a better experience for page patrollers, by making it easier for them to curate new pages -- and by providing more feedback to creators so they can improve Wikipedia together. Read more on our blog announcement.

This quick video tour (3:30) shows how this feature works, with a demonstration of the New Pages Feed and Curation Toolbar. It was created and narrated by yours truly.

To watch this video tour, click the blue 'Play' button -- or view the full screen version.

You can also view this video in other formats on YouTube and Vimeo.

Article Feedback Tour

Welcome to Article Feedback V5, a new feature from Wikimedia Foundation.

This editor engagement tool helps readers contribute more productively on Wikipedia. Readers now have an easy way to give suggestions about articles -- and editors can make improvements based on that feedback.

This quick video tour (3:50) shows how this feature works, starting with the feedback form and ending with the feedback page and its moderation tools. It was created and narrated by yours truly.
